well there was a major new development just a few moments ago, claudine wong has all the details, what is going on claudine? >> reporter: the rest of them are coming out of the building and being loaded into the sheriff's vehicles and it is safe to say this building is no longer occupied by protesters. we are told by one of the protesters who came out of the building who was not arrested who of them and we do not have information but you can see a lot of police officers are still on standby in front of this pulling. there was a point where we were not sure if protesters had given up immediately because it was an extended period of time police officers were in there but they can say they were simply sweeping the building and they wanted to make sure

they had done through you will at the rooms that we have started taking people out. now they are taking posters and signs and you can see on the back of that police van is because they are bringing protesters out one by one and loading them up and they will be charged again. we did speak with one protesters when police went in. here is what he had to say. >> it was random and unexpected. we had heard about 10:00 it was totally peaceful, the cops came in, we sat down and again four or five of us had -- >> reporter: again that was quincy car and he identifies

himself as a protesters. he said five protesters were allowed to leave without being charged. he said he does not know why he was not arrested but he was prepared to be arrested. there were about ten people upstairs and 38 people pillow. when they came in most of them were asleep and they all sat down and had a conversation and nobody resisted and the point of all this was to occupy this building and he wanted to raise awareness of the foreclosed situation in and around the area and again he has left but as far as we can tell there are still protesters inside and police are in riot gear it will shut down to traffic on turk

tasered by police and he and 35 others were arrested. they starred throwing bottles and trash cans into a police car and they started throwing things at banks and other businesses. >> there was a bunch of them trying to break windows and you know trying hurt our officers. there were several officers who had things thrown at i am had. we had one where they through it all over his entire body and the fire department had to check him out but he was okay. >> one police officer faces felony charges and most of the others had their tires

. police have moved in with riot gear in the city's missing district -- mission district and that building is owned by the catholic church. we are right there on the corner of turk and golf street. we were there as six protesters were inside and they have been brought out in handcuffs. claudine wong is out there with her photographer and we will keep you updated with the latest developments on this scene in san francisco. we are following developing news out of china this morning. blind chinese activist who suit refuge in beijing is now a free man. a friend of the man said he only agreed to stay in china actually to protect his family and that information is just coming in but he has left the

u.s. embassy now after receiving assurances from chinese authorities he would not be placed under house arrest again. and we learned this after speaking with secretary of state hillary rodham clinton. he told clinton he wanted to kiss her for supporting his cause. and back in washington d.c., a little over an hour, a surprise trip to afghanistan, allison burns is in our washington d.c. newsroom why some say it was a missed opportunity. >> they say president barack obama's speech was frustratingly short on specifics because he did not discuss how to prevent afghanistan from i am moding after u.s. troops leave in 2014. president barack obama arrived under the cover of darkness and

he used the trip to sign an agreement with president ahmed wali karzai and encountered terrorism efforts beyond 2014 but the deal did not include how much money the u.s. might commit. president barack obama is catching some heat this morning for touting communications with the taliban. >> we made it clear they can be a part of this future if they break with al qaeda, renounce violence and abide by afghan laws. >> if they were not willing to step down from al qaeda, as we are pulling down our troops why would they be more willing to engage us. >> and as a sign of how violent, they detonated a car bomb after the president's departure and at least seven people were killed. allison burns, ktvu channel 2 morning news.

three land mines were headed to fso. officials stopped a woman who was trying to board a flight from newark to new jersey. those mines were found packed with shrapnal. the woman said she was a ten willing an explosives demonstration. they allowed her to rebook a night without explosives. they were not the only ones who saw violent mayday protests. look at that. this is in seattle. dozens of people dressed in black at nike town store, look at that, they then moved on even damaged the federal courthouse. ms. also confiscated several items they thought were made to be homemade explosives.

and they are looking into whether employees will strike. they began voting on april 16th after contract negotiations failed. they expect a strike declaration and the union reps 24 professors counselors and other usc staff on 20 other campuses. the results is expected to be made on long beach but they will be listening in on a conference call. san jose city council could not agree on a pension for city employees. they asked the council to reduce benefits for city workers hired after july 1st. firefighters would not be up chewed in those cut backs. they wanted them to switch to a cheaper health plan or pay more to get their current level

property on turk and got as they begin to bring protesters out. that one is out and i'm not sure why but it has been a steady stream and what they do is pull up a van, load it with protesters ride off and pull up the next van. you can see a large police presence in front of this building and here comes yet another couple of protesters outside of the building to be loaded into the van. it has not happened with any major incident, we have spoken with at least one protester who was not arrested and he said it has been calm and peaceful through the night and even this morning when police went in. they went in a little before 5:00 this morning after keeping an eye on the building all night long, the protester said everybody was asleep when it happened and here is what happened. >> we were totally sleeping.

>> what was the first indication something was happening? >> well, when they had first came inside, we -- we had just said okay, that's it and we had our hands up, ready to go and again four or five -- five -- five of us were actually -- let, let go free. >> at this point, it is unclear how much longer it will take to clear the building but we know san francisco police have control of the building and we see a lot of activity right in front of this building in park view terrace and this is an apartment building across the street from the building that was occupied which is where san francisco police made their headquarters for the night and it looks like everybody is beginning to clear out the first sign at the end of the protests they are being pulled out of this building and

officers in their riot gear are making their way out of here and given clearing the street. again they have been out here just before 5:00 this morning when they all went into the building to take the building back from occupied protesters who have been there since yesterday. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 morning news. and on bethel island at 4:30, police said the suspect was dead when they found him in the area of piper and sugar barge road. alex savage has been there all morning and you have details about where this all ended, alex? >> this area here still sealed off and nobody is being allowed behind this sheriff's car and the manhunt is over this morning.

the contra coster sheriff's department came here and this is an apparent suicide. chopper 2 flying above the scene, sheriff's office said he suffered a self inflicted gunshot wound. this area is partially submerged. police had been searching for him since he bolted from a traffic stop and fired on officers. nobody was hurt but the gunman escaped. people were ordered to stay inside and this morning they feel a sense of relief now that the fugitive has been found. >> normally i keep my doors locked and that's kind of a scary thing for here. >> and as we come back to a live picture, in this bethel neighborhood is blocked off and nobody is allowed to go in even if they live here.

still the search was on for the police department and what they have confirmed is that it was an apparent suicide. we will working on who this suspect is and we will have that for you hopefully later this morning. alex savage ktvu channel 2 morning news. new information in the federal sex scandal. they have not found any information to support the accusation made by an anonymous source. they claimed they hired prostitutes and while continuing investigations so far they have not turned up anything. the allegations surfaced after they were implicated and three agents refused to cooperate and would not take lie detector tests. the agents were the first to get booted from the secret service and they have interviewed 10 columbian

prostitutes and they are trying track down two more. newt gingrich will officially end his campaign for the republican nomination. the former house speaker will make the big announcement at noon our time. a spokesperson said newt gingrich will briefly mention mitt romney during that speech and there are plans for a formal endorsement event and that will be in a couple of weeks. it is starting to look like the mayor jean quan will get to keep her job. it looks like she appears to be in trouble. the people who have the best shot at that, have weeks to go before a self imposed deadline. the group 7,000 signatures and they need to collect 20,000 for the november ballot. and it shows just one-third of those who responded favored mayor jean quan.

however her critics say yesterday's violence in oakland may make more people choose to oppose her. and there are some new rules to abide by, late last night they approved a controversial new ordinance to give the city more control over places that surf alcohol. they could lose licenses and the measure throws a number of them into the downtown area this past winter. they are expected to be lifted in time for the cup race on may 25th and that temporary ban is expected to be lifted near the fairlawn islands. u.s. sailing has also created an independent panel and they are deciding whether new safety measures should be put into place. those results are expected in

top stories, we are still following developing news, police in riot gear moved in and arrested 26 protesters, the people who took over a catholic church building on turk street. police just told claudine wong two other people in the building were released. this is still developing and claudine wong is still talking to people coming out of the building and she will have all the details coming up on mornings on 2. and a police hunt, the man was in the car and it appears he died of self inflicted gunshot wounds. police have been searching for that man since 1:30 this morning after he fired shots at sheriff's deputies after they pulled him over. following a long day of

[crowd noise] >> they captured this tense scene on 14th and broadway and it was one of many violent clashes between protesters. claudine wong has been down there watching the cleanup. here is tara moriarty. >> reporter: well, each window was counted and we see it will be over $8,000 worth of damage off of 20th and franklin and now crews are trying to board it up after last night's violence. >> go to jail... >> [crowd noise] >> reporter: this is video that ktvu channel 2 morning news showed a man being tasered by police. it started and by 8:00 last night the crowd had been to 300 at frank ogawa plaza.

a splint terrible group started setting fires in trash cans and trying to torch a police car. some businesses sent employees home out of fear for their safety. >> we were trying to go home but it was actually trying to get home some of the people who lived there had to walk 12 blocks because the buses did not come downtown so she had to walk 12 blocks. >> reporter: police confirmed 25 arrests and one person faces felony assault charges and most of the other arrests involve widespread vandalism. a police car was torched and a news media vehicle had its tires punctured and no word on what the damage estimates will be but again when we were speaking to emily who works downtown this morning she said she can't remember what the

. federal judge issued an order just a day after a report criticized the police department's actions were released and if the complaints from the protests are not fully investigated he will replace a federal receiver over the police department. police officers who are guilty of official misconduct will not go unpunished. the suspect edwin ramos is accused of shooting tony
